Happy Monday! Happy Family Day!!!
As we celebrate Family long weekend I can’t help but reflect on what Family means to me.
Family is something I hold dear to my heart because I didn’t grow up with a “traditional” family.
Growing up, I was raised in a foster home. Having said that, I was blessed to grow up in a lovely foster home with a caring foster mom who made me feel like family.
Now that I have a family of my own it blows my mind how she was able to manage it all!
She was a single foster mom who was able to provide a beautiful home for children to feel safe. I can see clearly now how difficult it must have been to show up everyday and care for others, even though she made it look easy most of the time.
I know Family was super important to her! She was the glue that kept everyone together. She often cooked and hosted dinner for 25 + people just to have us all under one roof!
Sadly, my foster mom passed away 13 years ago but her family spirit lives on inside of me!
She taught me that you don’t have to be related to each other to call each other family!
It’s about being there for one another so we feel less alone as we try and navigate this thing called life! It’s about working together to bring out the best in each other! It’s about connecting and spending quality time together! It’s about seeing each other and feeling seen!
As I write this blog post, I can’t help but feel so grateful that I have people in my life that I’m privileged to call FAMILY!!!!!
As you read this blog post, I invite you to reflect, journal or even share with me what FAMILY means to you!!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this blog post. If you feel this would benefit someone in your family, please spread the love by sharing this blog post!
Until next time, take good care of yourself and each other
