How to get out of your own way!
How the hell do you get out of your own way!
When you suffer from ongoing anxiety, it’s so easy to let yourself stand in your own way! Believe me, I know! I used to suffer from debilitating anxiety that forced me to live a caged life! It also forced me to take better care of myself. Both physically and mentally.
Frankly, that’s how I got into the world of personal growth and self-development. It gave me the tips and tools I needed to set myself free!
So, if you’re suffering from ongoing anxiety or if you simply want to step out of your comfort zone where you can grow into your best self, then you’ll want to consider these best practices.
One of the major takeaways I resonated with was the fact that it’s Me Vs Me. It always has been, and it always will be. Having a mindfulness practice really thought me about ownership and self-awareness. Once you can take ownership and become more aware of your daily actions and daily habits, you begin to have more control over your life!
You also have a greater understanding of why we do what we do and what’s the underlying reason for us to stay in our comfort zone.
Now, there are usually 4 main reasons why we get in our own way and that is;
1. Our Limiting Beliefs; Giving in to our limiting beliefs of not being good enough
2. Our Vulnerability; We’re afraid that if we show our real authentic self, our thoughts, and our beliefs, we might be judged, ridiculed, or worse, rejected
3. Our lack of showing up, especially when it’s uncomfortable or difficult
4. Perfectionism; If it’s not perfect, it’s not worth putting it out there
If you’re at a point where you’ve had enough with this caged life and you’re ready to break free from these chains called fear then you must implement these best practices.
1. When you find yourself giving in to your limiting beliefs when times get tough, I want you to take a deep breath and kindly ask your inner critic to “take a break and that you’ve got it from here”. I know it sounds lunatic, but trust me, it really works.
One of the greatest techniques I’ve learned was; Whenever I’d start criticizing myself, I would use Jack Canfield’s teaching and simply say CANCEL CANCEL. Then I’d replace it with a positive affirmation. Applying this technique on a consistent basis literally fires and wires the neurons inside your brain to think more positively and ultimately increases your self-worth.
2. Turn your vulnerability into a superpower:
For most of my upbringing, I would hide behind my flaws. I would shave my hairy forearms. I would cut my hair into a bang to hide my scar. I’d even avoid making eye contact because of my lazy eye. Overtime those insecurities molded into other insecurities like not telling anyone about my panic attacks because I was afraid to be judged.
But then I’ve learned that my insecurities and vulnerability, can in fact help other people. When I started opening up about my ongoing anxiety, I saw how much of an impact it had on others. They felt less alone with their struggles and it gave them hope that they can overcome their hardships. Which that alone was extremely powerful! It was so rewarding and so fulfilling that it helped heal my own anxiety.
So, if you’re hiding behind your flaws, I highly recommend showing your vulnerabilities more because it could be your superpower!
3. The power of showing up: Every time you show up and you give your 100%, you give yourself that gift of growing into your best self. So please honor the struggles, embrace the hot mess, and celebrate your victories so you can realize your truest potential!

4. Don’t allow your perfectionism to get in the way of your purpose. I know it’s a tough hurdle to overcome as it took me a while to finally understand that the only way, I will progress is by putting myself out there. It’s the only where you’ll truly be able to see the imperfections that need tweaking. Not to mention, every time you inch your way forward, you continue to feel great because you get a hit of dopamine which is a love hormone that makes you feel good!
