How to increase points of joy in your everyday life?!
Well hello there!
How are you? I hope your week is off to a gorgeous start!!!
I’m excited to share this week’s blog post with you because I have a feeling it will resonate deeply! In fact I think it will inspire you to integrate this into your everyday life!! That is my hope anyway!
Waking up to such a beautiful sunny morning was such a blessing that I had no choice but to go out for a nice nature walk! Which I’m glad I did because I was able to experience total Joy in that moment.
And that’s what I want to talk to you about! How often do we miss out on those simple pleasures because we’re either stuck in our heads or in our never ending to do list!?!
I got to say, as a person who used to suffer from chronic anxiety, i find it’s so important to take the time and do more of what you love to enhance your state of wellbeing. And today was a perfect example of that. Just embracing that sunny moment, especially after such a gloomy grey January,
So, if you’re feeling Blah or if you’re feeling like time is passing you by, then I invite you to do this simple exercise that will allow you to slow down and really feel the moment. Because at the end of the day, I think we’re all looking for ways to get out of our heads and into our hearts so we can feel the day more!
Welcome to the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding exercise!
By the way, this is such a powerful exercise if you suffer from anxiety!!!
Take a moment out of your day and describe the following;
List 5 things that you see
List 4 things that you feel
List 3 things that you hear
List 2 things that you smell
List 1 thing that you can taste
For example; I have this morning ritual that allows me to do this exercise.
I pour myself a cup. of warm lemon water and sit in stillness for 5-10 minutes and I start paying attention to 5 things I see in my environment. Usually it’s the flame of my burning candle. the art on my wall, the lemon in my water, the weather outside, the colours of my blanket.
Then I describe 4 things that I can feel. for example: the warm glass in my hands, the soft cushion that I’m sitting on, the warm blanket that surrounds me, the warm liquid that enters my mouth.
Then I describe 3 things that I hear. For ex: The sound of my diffuser, the quiet of the room, the fainted sounds of the neighborhood.
Then I describe 2 things I can smell. For ex: The essential oil I have in my diffuser, the scent of my lemon water
And finally, I describe the thing that I can taste, which is the fresh taste of my lemon water.
This simple yet powerful exercise can really set the tone to your day if you do this first thing in the morning or you can do this when you’re about to eat a meal. Which sets the stage for proper digestion.
I hope this blog post serves you well
