Take care of your P.M.S to enhance your state of wellbeing!
Hi there!
How are you? I hope your year is off to a great start! I know for many of you January can be a hard month to navigate! Seasonal Depression can be a real struggle if we don’t take care of our P.M.S
No, I don’t mean your menstrual cycle. What I mean by P.M.S is your Physical Health, Your Mental Health and your Service.
Years ago, I was suffering from debilitating anxiety to a point where I couldn’t see a way out. Unfortunately, I had no choice but to go on medication to ease my anxiety symptoms.
I was on antidepressants for 6 years before I learned how to take care of my P.M.S. Once I started taking care of my physical and mental health, I started seeing a shift in my overall health and my wellbeing.
Over time I was able to wean off my medication and experience little to no anxiety symptoms.
However, I realized that if I neglect taking care of my P.M.S, if I neglect eating healthy and train my mind to think right on a consistent basis, then the old patterns of fear and anxiety starts creeping back in. This is why it’s so important to take care of your P.M.S by doing these 4 things.
Physical Health
Exercise and nutrition plays a huge role in your state of wellbeing. Adding movement in your daily routine improves your physiology and your biochemistry by activating your feel good hormones called endorphins.
Just think how good you feel after you’ve completed a workout! That’s because you’ve had endorphins rushing through your veins! The reason we’re wired this way is because back in the cave man years, we had no choice but to keep moving in order to find food and shelter.
But nowadays we are more sedentary than ever before due to working long hours in front of a computer or, binge watching Netflix or scrolling social media. All of which gives us a hit of dopamine which is another feel-good neurotransmitter but is done in an unhealthy way.
Depending where you’re at, you can start with a fast pace 10 minute walk and work your way up. You can lift weights, go for a run, go biking, skiing, dancing, yoga, whatever turns you on, just make sure it’s an activity you enjoy to make it sustainable.
Next we have nutrition. We literally become what we eat and when we eat a full and varied diet that nourishes you on a cellular level and improves your gut microbiome you will improve your mental wellbeing.
I’ve talked about activating your feel good neurotransmitter when we exercise, but did you know you get the same reaction when you eat a healthy diet? That’s because 95% of your feel good neurotransmitters called serotonin lives inside your gut. So when you eat a healthy diet, you improve your gut health which ultimately improves your mood, even during the hardest month of the year! Trust me on this one!
Mental Health
Just like we become what we eat, we also become what we consistently think about! That’s why we must learn how to train our minds to think right. Your brain is designed to protect you so it’s always on the look out of the dangers around you. That’s why mindfulness practices like mediation, gratitude and listening to content on personal growth/self-improvement is so important! It allows you to have more control over your own thoughts. I’ve learned that your brain’s neurotransmitters literally wires itself based on thought patterns and over time, generates the feelings/emotions based upon the consistent stream of thinking.
Another really great thing to be aware of is we become who or what we expose ourselves to. So it’s important to stand guard at the gate of your own mind and be mindful of what or who you let in and how that makes you feel.
Service
And last but not least, acts of service and/or kindness will make you feel good because we are human beings who thrive on love and connection! Being in a place of service boosts our mood because it generates oxytocin which is a love hormone that is designed to connect us to one another. That’s why we’ve survived all these years because we are stronger together!
This is why I love sharing with you any healthful tips that will enhance your state of wellbeing because it makes me feel good knowing I can be of service for someone. Just like someone was there for me when I was in the thick of it. Having said that, if you feel anybody would benefit from this blog post please serve them well by sharing it.
If you are going through a hard time I hope this message can shed a bit of light in your darkness and just know that you’re not alone and that you can feel better once you take care of your P.M.S
Thanks so much for reading
Until next time my friend
Take good care of yourself

If you’re on anxiety medication and wish to wean off, I strongly advise working closely with your Dr. as results may vary. I worked closely with my Dr. and the withdrawal symptoms were quite intense!
I’m so happy I received medical support during such a difficult process! I also wish to point out that my successful experience may also differ from person to person. Depending on the individual!
