Did you know Humming is a great way to calm your nervous system? It’s a beautiful way you can self-regulate whenever you’re experiencing stress as it activates the Vagus nerve.
The Vagus nerve is one of the longest nerves that runs from the brain all the way to your digestive system. It has several functions, including transmitting information from the organs (Gut, Liver, Heart, Lungs) to the brain.
There are many ways to activate the Vagus nerve to help stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, the rest & digest that’s responsible to ease anxiety symptoms.
1. Humming or singing creates vibrations that massage the Vagus nerve located near your vocal cords
2. Chanting OM also creates a vibrational response that massages your Vagus nerve. You can use this during your meditation practice or at the end of your yoga practice.
This simple, yet powerful technique has been a game-changer in regulating my nervous system. It’s also been a great preventative tool of enhancing my state of well-being.
Especially when chanting OM during my meditation practice. Highly recommend.
If Chanting OM is too much for you, you can, at the very least, hum your favorite tune and feel the difference
