Mood boosting foods to enhance your happiness, and reduce your stress/anxiety!

Happy Monday Everyone!!!

I’m so glad you’re here! Today’s blog post is such a hot topic that will leave you feeling excited and/or hopeful of how you can boost your mood with certain foods!!!!

It’s safe to say that we’ve all experienced stress and low mood for a variety of reasons. Oftentimes we tend to  gravitate towards things that make us feel good instantaneously. Things like sugar, coffee and/or alcohol to lift our moods, calm us down, and/or increase our energy/focus. Unfortunately those things come at a cost to health and wellbeing long term. Because they tend to create a chemical imbalance in our feel-good neurotransmitters and an imbalance in our blood sugar levels(spike & crash effect). This can actually make us feel worse until the next pick me up.

Fortunately we have natural mood boosting foods that can do wonders for our mood and energy long term! Things like Raw Cacao, Maca Root, Mulberries and Grass-Fed Whey.

Dark Chocolate - If you think about it, everyone craves chocolate when they feel down or stressed. That’s because it gives you a dopamine hit which is a feel-good neurotransmitter that makes us feel good and enhances focus. The only caveat is it has to be raw cacao vs cocoa. Raw chocolate is also really high in magnesium which nourishes our nervous system. This leaves us feeling calm and happy.

You can try 1 tbsp of raw chocolate daily for two weeks and see the difference in your sense of wellbeing.

Organic Mulberries - Mulberries have an amino acid called Theanine that is great to regulate the nervous system. They’re also really sweet, which can help curb any sugar cravings. You can combine it with different types of nuts and pieces of raw chocolate and make it a trail mix.

Maca  - Maca is a cruciferous root vegetable that is grown in Peru. It helps to balance your hormones, boost your mood/energy and calm your nervous system. You can find Maca in a powder form in the natural food store and add it to your smoothie.

Grass-fed Whey - Grass-Fed Whey is not just a post workout drink, it may help reduce levels of cortisol (stress hormone) and increase serotonin production. Serotonin is also another feel-good neurotransmitter that can boost your mood.

So there you have it!! Let food be thy medicine when it comes to improving your overall health and wellbeing. It sure has made a big difference in my life and I hope it can have a positive impact on yours!
