Seek Adventure, Not Security!

Happy Monday Everybody!!!

I hope you had an adventurous weekend!

I just came back from an amazing trip to Calgary with my daughter and I feel compelled to talk about the importance of seeking adventure vs seeking security.

As a person who’s prone to anxiety and scared of flying, it would be easy to live in my comfort zone. That’s when I realize that self-education on personal growth and self-development is so powerful when it comes to living life on your terms.

Once I strip away the fear, the security and/or the comfort zone, I can really tap into my adventurous side and my sense of aliveness! Every Time I got to experience something truly amazing, it was on the other side of my comfort zone. Whether it was taking a flight, running a half marathon or fire walking, it was all worth the temporary fear for a lifetime of growth and amazing memories!

Seeking adventure vs security will also ignite your sense of pride and confidence! Imagine, being able to overcome your own fears and experiencing something magnificent, and being able to say “I DID THAT!”

It’s not to say you won’t experience fear or anxiety when it comes to doing something outside of your comfort zone. Trust me, I still get a little antsy when it comes to flying, even though it’s much better. I mean, exposure therapy is definitely a real thing!. It’s really about learning how to manage your fear and summoning the courage to do it anyway!

That’s why personal growth and self-development is so powerful so you can learn the tools and exercises to help you grow and tap into your best self!  Trust me, you don’t want to let fear control you or worse force you to play or stay small. We only have one precise life to live so why not learn how to live it to the fullest!

Some of the things that help me manage my own fears and anxiety is to learn how to master my mindset. When I notice my mind going into dark places, I work on bringing it back with my breath,(extending the length of my exhale to bring my nervous system to a parasympathetic state). Because the mind doesn’t know the difference between real danger and imaginative danger.

Then I’ll work on replacing the dark thought with a more positive thought. For example: When I’m flying and I start thinking about the plane’s engine breaking down, I take a deep breath and I replace it with I can’t wait to see my friend when we land. I even imagine the excitement when I see her. This incredible brain hack lets my mind know that I will land safely.  Thanks Mel Robbins for this incredible insight!

So, I guess the main thing I wanted to convey is to really make self-improvement a way of life so you can learn to seek adventure vs seeking security and thrive in this lifetime vs just trying to survive the mundane of life!
