Your Body Speaks To You Through Symptoms
Hi Everybody
My name is Nancy Pitre and I’m a Certified Holistic Health Coach tuning in once again to provide you with tips and tools you can use to help facilitate your own journey towards health and wellness.
What I know for sure is that your body constantly speaks to you through symptoms. It’s just that we rarely tune in. It could be the simple reason that we’re too busy or we just grow accustomed to our symptoms. I often hear “ Well, at my age, I’m supposed to be tired” or I Hear “ I’m just meant to be overweight because my family’s overweight so it’s in the genes”. People will also believe that they’re meant to be depressed or anxious because of their circumstances or it’s genetics. It could also be the fact that it might be too painful to look inward, because that means it would require making changes. Which can be super scary and uncomfortable for most. And rightfully so, change can often be scary and uncomfortable because of the unknown. They may fear losing their sense of familiarity, their comfort foods, or worse, the people around them! We often stay the same because we worry about what others will think of us, so we rather stay small!
You see, according to Marianne Williamson, the world’s greatest spiritual teacher who says and I quote “ Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others”.
That quote resonates with me on a profound level because when we decide to step out of our own darkness and head towards our light, it takes quite a bit of responsibility and ownership. Which often requires extreme effort, work, discipline and consistency to make the necessary changes. Which is why some people rather stay in their darkness because it’s much easier and familiar. If life is going to be hard, it might as well be hard for the right reasons! There’s this lovely quote from Les Brown, who’s a motivational speaker I went to hear a couple of years ago who says and I quote “Do what is easy and your life will be hard. Do what is hard and your life will become easy'“. It’s so easy to give in to temptations like eating all the junk food and continue to party like it’s 1999 and sleeping in and watch hours of Netflix, and finding yourself always going for the easy way out. But eventually, you will suffer the negative consequences which will eventually lead you to a harder life. You see, either way life can get pretty difficult at times but if you consistently put in the work and the discipline to take greater care of yourself, physically, mentally, and spiritually, life does get easier for you!.
I’ve come to know this once I tuned in to my own signs and symptoms of anxiety. My body was yelling at me to make better decisions, especially in my early twenties. But instead, I told it to shut up by going on anti-depressants. In fact, I was on anti-depressants for 6 years before I started listening to my body.
You see, the anxiety that I was suffering from was my body’s way of telling me, “you need to take better care of yourself, both physically and mentally, otherwise you’re heading straight down for dis-ease for the rest of your life! This ongoing partying and eating junkfood has got to stop! You need to understand that nothing changes if nothing changes!”
Fortunately for me, I was presented with the opportunity to heal my mind, body, and spirit and it has become an ongoing practice ever since! Yes, it takes a hell of a lot of effort, discipline and consistency to shine, but it sure beats living in the damn darkness for the rest of my life.
So whenever you find yourself stuck in your darkness, try tuning into your body, your intuition, and see what it’s trying to tell you. It could be as simple as “are you sure you want that second piece of cake?” or “Do you really want to reach for that drink?” or “Do you really want to believe that about yourself?” or “Should I really continue hanging out with those people?” Remember it’s the simple shits in your thinking and in your behavior that will get you closer and closer to your light. Next thing you know you’ll be shining so bright that others will want to do the same! You are not your past, your genes, your thoughts. You are the sum of every habit and every action you take on a daily basis. So why not head towards that beautiful light of yours!!!
I hope this message serves you well! If you feel like anybody wouold benefit from this blog post, feel free to spread the love by sharing it.
